Al-Barzakh
Death is the ultimate reality that no human being can escape. It forces everyone to realize the worthlessness of this worldly life and the necessity to prepare for the permanent abode in the next one. It awes people and challenges all of their false claims and deviant beliefs. It puts an end to their hopes for prosperity in this life. It transferes them to an intermediate stage of living totally different from the life in this world. Once there, they have no way of returning to this life. As Allah says:
Until, when death comes to one of them (those joins partners with Allah), he says “My Lord! Send be back. Perhaps I may do good in that which i have left behind!” No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is a barzakh (barrier) until the day when they are raised up.
[Sural -Al-Mu’minoon, verses 99-100]
The purpose of this book is to cover the details of this intermediate life in al-Barzakh. The discussion is only based on authentic texts from Allah’s book and His Messenger’s Sunnah. It totally avoids unfounded presumptions and speculations that people have accumulated in various cultures and societies.
In addition to the subjects usually discussed when dealing witht he study of al-Barzakh, we include in this book material covering subjects that, we believe, are highly relevant. Among these is “Communication with Al-Barzakh (chapter 10)” and “Things that benefot the Dead (Chapter 11)”. Other material, which is believed to be relevant but not to the same degree, is included in the other parts of this series (The Inevitable Journey).
Whereas we make no claim to encompassing all authentic texts related to this subject, we have made a serious attempt to cover all authentic incidents and help form to complete a picture of that stage of life as possible.
Our hope is to provide with this an important reference that will help people gain a clear understanding of that inevitable stage of life and, therefore, help them prepare themselves for it.
We have attempted to present the material in a highly structured and organized manner, introducing tables as much as possible, in order to enable using the book as a classroom or study circle reference.
